DIY Yarn Mobile Tutorial

I have been putting off this project for basically 9 months. Thanks to Pinterest, I saw this mobile at Put Up Your Dukes and I had to make it or I wouldn't be at rest. (Why does my brain do that??)
So, I rounded up A LOT of yarn, crochet circles and jewelry string and it sat in my "to do" project pile for about 5 months.
I finally found the motivation I need after an appointment to the OB and finding out I was already dilated! So, here is how I finally started and finished our little guy's yarn mobile.
First, I started rolling yarn balls and didn't finish until many "Vampire Diaries" and "Once Upon a Time" episodes later. I am sure that rolling the yarn around foam balls would have been MUCH easier but after so many trips to the craft store with crazy kids in tow, I found it therapeutic to just sit and roll yarn (yep, I have issues).  I used a hot glue gun to secure it along the way and ended with 11 yarn balls varying in size when I was done.
Second, put a dab of hot glue on the inside of the yarn circle and start wrapping it around that. You only need the inside crochet circle, my boys had fun playing with the outer circles (so much for making something out of those).
After I was finished with the yarn (I decided to not use all the colors, there is already enough color in his room), I wasn't sure what to do and my surgeon-in-training husband walks by and says why don't you just do this. . . and proceeds to tie an amazing knot to one of the yarn balls in 2 seconds.
All these months of trying to figure out what to do. . . who would of thought that my anti-project doing husband would of had the answers)
His secret was out, so he tied knots on all the yarn balls with the string leaving about 12-24 inches of string. Then he tied 3 pieces of string to each crochet circle tier leaving about 12-24 inches on those as well.
Next comes the tricky part, take the first (the smallest) and last (biggest) tier and tie the 3 strands of the biggest tier to the smallest tier as shown in the diagram below.
Now take one strand of the middle tier, thread it through the top tier and tie those 4
(one of the middle and the 3 top) strands together and tie to a ring that can be attached to a hook in the ceiling. The other 2 strands of the middle tier are going to hang on their own hook, so tie a knot at the top and attach it to a ring. It gets very tedious and takes a few times of tying to get it at the right length.
(I had to take pictures of my husband helping because if you know him, this is VERY rare that he is in on my insanity. . . which is evident from his headphones still being on:))
I dabbed a bit of hot glue to each know just in case.
Now that you have all the tiers tied together, the fun part comes. Tying all the yarn balls on. There is no right or wrong way to do this. I tied 5 to the bottom tier, and 3 to the middle and top.
Hang in the nursery and wait for that little one to get here!!!
Or finish the other million projects you want to get done before having 3 kids, ages 3 and under and not being able to pick up a hot glue gun or paintbrush for a LONG time.
Post of the finished nursery coming soon!

Book of Mormon Reading Chart

Our ward is VERY fortunate to be hearing from two amazing people tomorrow at our Relief Society activity about setting up and sticking to a personal and family scripture study schedule. One of which sent me a copy of what they give their kids to keep track of their daily reading schedule. I LOVE how you mark off each DAY you read instead of each CHAPTER you read that day. I definitely don't always finish a chapter a day and don't think that is what matters. I tweaked it just a bit but give all the credit to my friend.

I plan on printing them up on different colors of card stock, cutting them in half and using them as bookmarks. I know I am 16 days late getting this out but you can use it year after year. . . just white out the 29th of February:)

We just started consistently  reading the Book of Mormon every night to our boys (I know, I know we should have always been reading to them) and it is basically the only time during their waking hours when they are quiet. For those of you who know my 3 and 1 year old boys, that is A MIRACLE!

Batman Birthday Party Invitation and Party Kit, Superhero Birthday Invitation

I was pretty excited when a fabulous customer of mine asked me to do a Batman party kit seeing how my boys LOVE superheroes (see superhero bedroom). The kit includes favor tags (4 per page), cupcake toppers (12 per page) and a Happy Birthday banner. All of which are printables. The invitation and party kit are now up in my shop.

You can always contact me for more party items . . . water bottle wrappers, party signs, address labels, etc.
Other Superheroes are also available or a combination!

Chevron Canvas Makeover

Like most decor in my house, especially the ones made by me, they get moved around A LOT and get changed A LOT. Like this canvas, after painting the chevron pattern, I hung it above our computer, than over the fireplace, than above our bed and now it resides in our hallway with a new heart initial decal.
We will see how long that lasts. . .
I was not loving the "V" and "L" vinyl that I bought simply because it was on clearance, so I have been thinking for MONTHS what I could do to change it. This is what I came up with . . . for now:)
I took an old cardboard box, scrap fabric, mod podge and scissors.
Cut out a heart and started mod podging those fabric scraps on there. The back is not so cute as you can tell but I just put some sticky backs on there (because I know me and I will probably change this sometime, hopefully in the not so near future) and slapped it on the canvas. I wasn't planning on putting the vinyl back on but as I was taking it off, I thought I still liked it without the twirly stuff.

A little love in the hallway, just in time for Valentine's Day.

Winter Yarn Wreath & More Winter Decor Ideas

I always LOVE putting up Christmas decorations but I also LOVE putting them away. However, I always feel like the house is a bit bare without any holiday decor. This is just about the only thing I have for winter decor. . . and it really isn't that wintery. The white shimmery yarn and deep purple flowers remind me of winter when I really could just keep it up year round. There is just something about decorating for the seasons. . . right?!
(Please tell me, or rather my husband, that I am not the only one that likes to change the decor every month)

Here are a few of HGTV's fans winter decor ideas
Oh, this would really throw my hubby for a loop if I painted murals on the wall for each season. . . this is vinyl but I don't have a vinyl machine so painting would have to suffice:)
Snowflakes falling throughout the house. . . LOVE
Snow filled vases from Celebrations.com

A subtle silver, glittery tree
Love this porch that is ready for winter.

What do you do when the Christmas decorations come down? Enjoy the cleanliness or are you itching to put up your Valentine's decorations?
