Yellow Desk Makeover

While I was visiting my family, my sister and I (ok, really just my sister) painted one of my Dad's many old desks YELLOW for her daugther's room. I didn't get to see the finished product in person but these pictures are to die for! There were 3 fabric panels on top of the desk under the glass top that she covered with the most adorable fabric.
Here is the BEFORE:
We took off all the casing around the bottom because one piece was missing on the front left there, only to find it when we took out all the drawers. Oh well, I like it better without them.
My sister going to town with the sander. I can't believe I have gone my whole life without one of those!
A little primer action. We used spray paint for the whole thing and since it was pretty potent and I am preggo, I had to stay back a bit. It was killing me to not get in on all the action.

And the adorable AFTER:
The handles are spray painted a plum purple which just makes it even more fun.
That is one lucky little 5 year old who gets this desk:)

Sew Sewable - Pillowcase dress!

I did it!
I took my mom's sewing machine out of the basement and figured it out with the help of a friend.
First, I hemmed a square of fabric. Woo hoo
...and then four pillows for the deck
and next? the pillowcase dress.

New to sewing? This is super super easy and took me only about an hour
(not counting the time that it took Penny to choose the fabric that she wanted).

(above, Penny "posing,"a tutorial on how to make her hair bow can be found here.)

I found many, many links for the tutorial but this one from the Prudent Baby blog was my favorite. Here's another one that was great.

And here is Penny, modeling for me. She is two and can't stay still for anything.

We bought one yard of fabric that will easily make two dresses with the fabric left over. Possibly enough for two little hair bows. Can you see the little cakes and ice cream cones on the fabric? I bought fabric because it was 100% cuter than a pillowcase. I mean, all of the pillowcases we have lying around the house aren't exactly dress material. Drool stains on a dress are SO not in style.

Maybe for the next one (her little sister's, of course!), I'll try some kind of trim on the bottom. Exciting!

Now, onto the next sewing project. Any great suggestions?

I'm thinking about buying this book, 1,2,3 Sew. Has anyone read it?

Playroom Castle Mural

I have been visiting family for the past couple weeks (note, lack of posts) and thought I would share a mural I painted in my Mom's playroom for Christmas in 2009 and the adorable designing she has done since.
In the process . . .
The final product . . .

Oh, that same preggo belly of mine is back.
Here is the rest of the adorable playroom that my boys play in for hours and are going to sorely miss when we go back to Nebraska.
One of the first digital designs I made . . . good thing my Mom (a.k.a. Grandma Kat) loves anything her children make:)
I am even in love with the closet.
 Pottery Barn inspired Chalkboards.
Stay tuned to see the amazing remodels my Mom has done to her Victorian Bathroom and Living Room.

Mini Dining Room Makeover... Part 2?

Sarah here, back with an update to my 40 bags in 40 days post.. and a strangely psychic post about MY dining room. Really, not a clue that Telisa was posting about HER dining room.

Twins, I swear.

First, the dining room. Let's cut to the chase. This is before.
I like it. I was into the eclectic for awhile. Now, it's cluttered. I don't LOVE it. Time for a change.

A few months ago, I recovered the "S" with the same fabric from my dining room chairs. Last week, I recovered the chairs. Soooo... the "S" doesn't match.

Here is the new chair fabric. ahhhhhh. It's Dwell Studio from Joann's. I had a coupon. (maybe a post about my coupons later, but back to the dining room.) This is the third time I have recovered these chairs, and I have finally resorted to outdoor fabric. It's really easy to clean with two toddlers.

I always move everything away and start with a fresh slate.

Below, the fresh slate.
After!

A special thank you to Amy of Sprik Space for the awesome patterned printables!

I bought the frames at Walmart super cheap and have reused them from another room. I'm all about "shopping" from other areas in the house.

Now, for the 40 bags in 40 days update! Thank you to Bec from LittleLucyLu for the original posting about 40 Bags in 40 Days. You can check out her post here.

I have been working feverishly on my bags, mostly because I have all of you to keep me motivated! Here's my spice cabinet. It's all nice and neat now, and you can open the door without things falling out. (!) Oh, and that is Charlie.

I was appalled at myself for having some italian seasoning in there that expired in 2006. Gross.

Let me know how your 40 Bags are coming along!
