Console TV Makeover

I had the best time with this TV makeover!
Here is the console TV that I found on Craigslist in the "FREE" section...
(I don't know how I convinced my husband to pick this up with me, but he must love me a lot because he did.. and then only teased me a little about our "new tv").
See? and then he tried to take it apart (but gave up and watched the race instead).

So I took it apart the next morning (with helpers, of course!).
Here is Penny reporting the news for me.
The actual glass television part was SUPER heavy.
I ended up rolling it into a pink tote for my husband to take to the curb.

Once I got it cleaned out, I painted two coats of aqua on the outside and two coats of yellow inside. And here's a secret... this was originally supposed to be a dog bed, HOWEVER- the dog wouldn't get in it and the kids wouldn't get out!

Above, you can see how I took off the back and covered it.
I used a tablecloth and cut a hole for the "window" (Also, the Radiation warning. eek!)
Play date!
During the play date, I made a curtain out of an old pillowcase and hung it with a tension rod.
The girls haven't gotten out! So far, it has been a reading nook, a house, a bus, an airplane, a puppet theater, a *very* brief dog bed, a hideout and a store.

Boys Superhero Room Reveal!

CLICK HERE TO SEE THE UPDATED ROOM!!!!!

After finding out we were pregnant with our 3rd child and knowing that meant the boys would soon have to share a room, I saw this quote,
Sometimes being a BROTHER
is better than being a SUPERHERO
and there was no going back, I had to do a superhero room for my boys. That was the first thing I made for the room, their own print.

Here is Bodie's room BEFORE:
and AFTER:
I found this AMAZING tutorial on how to make your pictures look like they are in a comic book. Had so much fun taking their pictures and turning them into this.

You can download the templates I used to make these superhero bins HERE.
This has probably been one of the most rewarding projects I have ever done because of how my son has reacted to it all. Worth. Every. Minute. Of. It. He spends most of his time playing in there pretending to be a Superhero and saving the world. Now all that is left to do is bite the bullet and move his little brother out of the crib/nursery and into the bottom bunk. . . before baby comes in less than 3 months!

Dining Table Makeover

Our once lovely black dining table has been through one too many moves and has left it in sad condition. I have wanted to refinish since our last move (over a year ago) but between kids, sicknesses, money and (probably the number one reason) my indecision, I didn't tackle the project until now.
Not only do the scratches and paint all over it drive me crazy but the CREVICES in the design of the table are enough to drive me mad. I know I am a little OCD, so the crumbs and who knows what in those crevices was enough to get me to refinish this and fill them in.
I REALLY wanted the wood filler to stay in place so I sanded in all the crevices, crazy, I know.
The most tedious part for me was filling in those crevices.  It didn't go in as smoothly as I was hoping and it is hard to push that stuff out!
However, well worth it. No more crumbs in the table.
Then it was time for sanding. . .
and more sanding. . .
and more sanding.

I went with the darkest stain and primer in one they had. I have never worked with stain but the directions on the paint made it pretty simple. I LOVE the outcome. I think the table can get dinged and scratched and just add to the character of it.

A side not about the chairs. I had intentions of painting them yellow or blue or white or some color, but found these awesome, retro, fun, stackable chairs at Target and that was that.

I put my chairs up on craigslist and the next day there were sold . . . I almost had an even trade but by the time I invested my time and money on paint, I figured I got the better end of the deal.

Now for this black bookcase behind the table that USED to match it. . . white, yellow, blue?? Suggestions?

Yellow Spray Painted Quilt Rack

I have had yellow fever lately, probably due to this beauty.
So the next culprit to yellow spray paint was our quilting rack! My mother-in-law makes AMAZING quilts (see monster quilt here) and we have some for every season and holiday so naturally they need to be on display! Can't wait to get my Halloween quilts out!
Here is the plain BEFORE:
